"My interest in art goes back to my childhood in Massachusetts. I always had a pencil in hand, filling many textbook margins with horse drawings. With those early experiences as a springboard, the art world was open to me. All that was necessary was to choose and master the techniques of a particular medium, which led me to watercolor ten years ago. Since then I have become active in the art world of Salt Lake City, entering local shows, teaching watercolor and enjoying membership in local art societies.
I mainly paint loose watercolors, and often experiment with a variety of grounds such as gesso or Yupo (a synthetic paper). Painting on gesso allows me to truly be free and draw from my imagination. I start with a pool of color and study the painted paper until I "see" something that I can build on. It's exciting to see a subject emerge from the "puddle" of paint!"
Sandi teaches watercolor classes in her studio.
