"These recent paintings reflect my interest in the quiet and serene aspects of nature. I feel a strong sense of awe and respect towards nature, and this attitude has moved me to make each painting. The paintings are not about the specifics of the locale, but about my experience in discovering the scene. I want to invite the viewer to share my response to a place that has offered me the chance to stop, slow down and look inward. These scenes have the potential to direct my attention towards forces beyond this natural world. I am intrigued by the complex relationships of trees and other growing things. The intricate patterns that form, as a bare tree is seen standing against the sky, mirror harmonious and desirable patterns of human behavior to me. The natural and inevitable course that flowing water takes, not only leads us through a meadow, but mirrors our potential as unique human beings. Color, value, composition, and the paint itself are the tools I use to construct a tangible statement about my view of this world. Pattern, order and harmony in nature are the primary forces that inform my artwork."
